Protect Your Computer Against Data Loss
One of the simplest ways to protect your computer against data loss is to purchase and install a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). They are relatively inexpensive, and can save you the headache and heartache of lost data or damaged hardware.
The better ones, connect to your PC, via a serial or USB connection, for monitoring and automated, clean shutdown control. The lower end models will allow you 8 to 15 minutes of backup time, but you have to shut your computer down manually.
UPS systems provide battery powered backup for your computer, line conditioning (protection against surges and spikes) and some manufacturer's offer an "equipment protection" policy, ranging from £2,500 to £50,000, or more, should your computer hardware be damaged by a power surge/spike, or other causes that should be prevented by a UPS.
